Jonathan Speigel is a partner who is the head of our Litigation and Construction Practice Groups. He was called to the Bar in 1976 and was certified by The Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in civil litigation in 1996 and construction law in 2001. He is a mediator who has completed the Harvard University mediation course, has mediated at the ADR Centre in Toronto, and is a roster mediator for the Ontario Mandatory Mediation Program – Toronto. He is the past chair of the civil litigation specialty committee, a committee of the Law Society of Upper Canada that vetted the applications of lawyers applying for specialist certification in civil litigation.

Jonathan has been a member of the governing council for the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association since 1994, and has been an officer of the Ontario Bar Association from 1998, firstly as the treasurer (four years), later as the vice-president, and then as the president in 2003–2004. Jonathan was active with the Peel Law Association as a director (1990–1996), continuing legal education chairperson (1994–1996), and treasurer (1991–1996). Finally, as a member of the Advocates' Society, Jonathan was part of the Central West Region subcommittee on the civil litigation task force regarding delays and backlogs in the Ontario Court (General Division).

Jonathan taught two courses at the Bar Admission Course: civil procedure, which he taught annually from 1990 to 1999; and advocacy, which he taught annually from 1991 to 1999. He has chaired and spoken at seminars presented by the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Peel Law Association, the Ontario Bar Association, and the Advocates' Society.

Jonathan is a past-campaign chairman for the Canadian Cancer Society (Bramalea Unit) and was the treasurer for that Unit, and later for the merged Brampton-Bramalea Unit, for thirteen years.

Jonathan publishes an alternating bi-monthly newsletter entitled 'Building Relationships'. One month, the newsletter deals with construction issues and the next month, it deals with issues of interest to lawyers. He also publishes a bi-monthly newsletter dealing with creditors' rights.
